How we choose
The cross first, then the crown
A medal begins as a sheet of metal. A blank is stamped from it, then struck with a die under pressure, the way a coin is struck. It is trimmed, polished by hand, and hand engraved with bright-cuts that catch the light when it moves.
This happens in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, in a workshop that has been in the same family since 1900 and is now run by the third generation. We choose what we carry from what they make, and we publish every figure we are given.
